Guitar Update…

Posted: May 21, 2011 in Uncategorized

So, I’ve actually had some time to work on my guitar recently! The work was mostly on the fretboard. I sanded the curve, or radius, of the fretboard with a block – which was probably really inaccurate and will cause me problems later. Then I measured the fret placement with some calipers, which I must say does not work very well 🙂 However, I had nothing else accurate enough to do the job, so… whatever. Cutting the frets was probably the worst, though. It was pretty easy – I used an hand saw and there are only 21 frets to put in. However, I feel like most of the cuts were not nearly accurate enough for use.. so it’ll probably be way out of tune :(. Then I pounded in the frets, and trimmed the ends.. and felt awesome – cause the hardest part is now done, albeit badly… Hopefully I’ll have some pictures up soon.

Today my dad and I put up some fluorescent lights in the shop.. which will be really nice for doing stuff there. However, they were kind of depressingly dim.. oh well.

I got a Droid X about a week ago off ebay… those things are awesome! Course, my luck, the thing wouldn’t charge, so I need to send it back and get another 😦

Another Post….

Well, it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me… I’ve been playing with putting up some of my wallpapers on the new website, and I’ve been trying to make a slideshow for some of them. It’s coming out pretty well so far – I’m doing it in after effects – like most of my other stuff. Hopefully, I’ll have it up on youtube soon… but, knowing me, no guarantees 😉 EDIT – it’s up now 😉

I’ve been keeping pretty busy recently – plus I’ve been trying to cut back on my computer time, so stuff happens a bit slower nowadays… but still, I’m doing some fun stuff. I’ve been working on my guitar some more – I’ve got the truss rod in and I’m working on the fretboard. Course, I realized I cut a hole in the body in the wrong location, so that’ll be fun to fix… Also, we’ve been working on getting some new lights up in the shop – so that should greatly aid in the work on all things wood.

I don’t know what else to say… I’ve been playing piano some, I ordered another Droid X cause the last one had an issue – so it should get here soon, which makes me very happy. I’m trying to get an electric drum set, but it’s a thousand bucks, and I’m poor… so we’ll see how that works out. Anyway, peace out until next time ;p

Ok, I finally made a slideshow with some of my wallpapers and uploaded it onto youtube! Check it out below: (PS – it’s for mother’s day… which explains the end :)) Remember you can go to http://zzwallpaperzz.wordpress.com/ to download them.

West Virginia

Posted: April 20, 2011 in Uncategorized

So, I’m in West Virginia for the week. It’s spring break, and I’m here with my grandparents like I am every spring break. Life’s kind of dull here, especially since it’s raining and cold every day. Still, though, it’s pretty nice to have some time to relax and sleep in, and spend some time with my computer.

I’ve been spending some more time with after effects recently. I don’t know if I said this already, but some of my friends and I are working on a video for World History. It’s seeming to be pretty cool – our topic was the Night of the Long Knives, when Hitler had a bunch of his political opponents killed. We started out serious, but then switched it to a more comedic theme since serious didn’t work too well. However, it’s some good practice for after effects – I’ve done some greenscreening, transitions, and lots of other fun stuff. Right now I’m working on some intro animations – which is going pretty well, except that I have no ideas for what to do. Like I’ve said before – i’m a little slow with creative ideas, but once I have one, cool stuff happens 🙂

So that’s that… my life in a nutshell 🙂

My Plane, and Other News

Posted: April 14, 2011 in Uncategorized

So, it’s been a while since I’ve been on here… Since nobody currently views this blog, I don’t feel pressured to post a lot… sorry if you actually do read this blog sometime in the future, when people may actually read this. It’s sort of depressing to write a blog and have nobody read it. I know there’s a ton of better blogs that people could read, so I don’t blame anyone, but it is really annoying.

Anyway, I’ve worked a bit on some of my projects since last post. Right now I’m working on this RC airplane I’m building. Basically, my goal is to make the whole thing from scratch and custom. The current design will be controlled by my computer via a joystick. The control data will be sent out via xbee to the plane, which will have an onboard arduino also hooked up to an xbee. The arduino is controlled via Firmata, which basically allows my computer to take it over and control everything directly. Then the servos and motor are connected to the arduino. That’s about it. Right now, I’ve got everything done except the xbee part, a bit of the software, and some of the frame. I’m working on the xbee part now. So far, it’s going really well – i’ve gotten a lot done in the past few days. Course, I still don’t have batteries for the plane, so that will be an issue… You’ve got to realize, I don’t really spend much money on these projects – so far on this plane I’ve spent like 30 dollars past what I already have – so I don’t really want to spend 50+ on some lipo batteries.

Also, I’ve worked some on my guitar. This is a solid-body electric guitar that i’m also building from scratch also for about 30 bucks. It probably won’t turn out that well, but if it does it’ll be really cool. I just bought the truss rod, which will help me out a lot since I’ve been trying to make one and that didn’t work so well. Life should move more easily now.

Those are my two main projects i’m working on now. Also, I bought a Droid X used off ebay for about 100 bucks… and it’s in the mail, so we’ll see how that goes 🙂 I’m not going to get service for it, since i’m poor.. instead i’ll just use it with wifi.

What’s Up?

Not much has happened recently in my life. I’ve not worked much on anything in specific. My dad and I have been working on some improvements in our shop area, and we are currently working on putting up a new ceiling out of 1/8 in plywood. It’s going slowly, but well. One of my friends recently introduced me to Minecraft. It’s a pretty interesting game. Basically, you build stuff with various kinds of blocks and try to kill bad things that come out in the night. It’s got sort of retro-style graphics, but I like it because it is based around creativity, and I like being creative. I’ve also been playing around with Adobe After Effects. It’s definitely a really cool program. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s basically a really cool video editing software suite. I’m working on a video with some friends for school, and we used it to greenscreen some videos. I have a bluish green wall that you can see in some of the pictures of my office, and we used that as a greenscreen. It doesn’t work great, because it’s glossy paint and has reflections, but with a few lamps I could light it well enough to get a generally even coloring across it. Then we videotaped our stuff and put it through After FX for the greenscreen processing. It came out looking really amateur and not clean at all, but that’s fine for our purposes – good even. I’ll try to post the finished video on youtube when I finish it.
